Kingsway Dermatology and Cosmetic Centre, located in the Toronto area, uses a fractional laser for resurfacing, as patients find the treatment boosts their confidence and helps them to feel better about themselves with a smoother complexion. Fractional laser resurfacing is also often referred to as laser skin rejuvenation, as it reduces signs of aging and gives your face an overall refreshed, more youthful look.
Vital components of healthy skin diminish naturally over time, and the damage is hastened by ultraviolet radiation and environmental pollutants. As a result, fine lines form, skin thins and loosens, brown spots appear, a rough texture can develop, and pores can appear larger. A fractional laser treatment is ideal for addressing these issues with skin texture, pigmentation, and appearance.
A fractional laser treatment consists of a series of four to six sessions spaced about four weeks apart. Our technology uses 1540nm or 2940nm high-intensity light, which passes deep beneath the surface of the skin in tiny columns, resulting in controlled thermal "wounding." The result is the formation of new collagen. This process of collagen formation continues over the next several months, softening and plumping skin and gradually reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles. Ideal results will be apparent over a six- to eight-month period.
After each treatment, patients can expect mild swelling for one to three days, and redness for three to five days. This can be easily treated with ice compresses and calming moisturizing lotions. Many of our patients find that they can go out the next day with just some light makeup.
As noted above, skin shows its age several ways:
Fractional laser sessions can treat all of these cosmetic problems, as rejuvenated collagen production coupled with other healing benefits restores a healthy thickness to the skin, refreshes dull patches and evens out irregular tones.
The fractional laser can be used on the entire face, as well as the neck and décolletage area. The amount of time for your session will vary depending on the specific regions being treated, but you can expect it to last roughly an hour.
After receiving a laser treatment, be sure to wear high-quality sunscreen on the treated area in the days and weeks after, as your skin will be particularly sensitive.
Patients who want to refresh their appearance, but are less concerned about correcting surface pigmentation problems, may consider skin tightening with Ultherapy®. Other wrinkle-smoothing options available beyond fractional laser resurfacing at Kingsway Dermatology and Cosmetic Centre include hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm®, and the muscle-relaxing Botox®. Platelet-rich plasma, known as PRP can also serve to stimulate collagen production by using beneficial elements safely extracted from your own blood.
The Kingsway team is prepared to assess each patient as an individual and help determine the ideal treatment for delivering the desired results.
